Just curious if this kind of thing has ever happened to anyone else. Was riding home late this afternoon when I hit a bump on the highway and thought I felt something hit my foot. After looking around the bike and myself I realized that my new cell phone had fallen out of my pocket and hit the parkway at a good 65mph. I thought about looping back for it but figured it was a lost cause since its probably in a bunch of pieces, nor was there much of a shoulder on the hutchison parkway. Man that sure sucks especially since I dont think I can afford to replace it now so I'm looking at a significant downgrade.

I guess this is a good lesson not to just shove important things in the front pockets of jeans.

That really sucks!! I feel for you bro... I think you should try getting a new freebie cell phone. I see ads for free cell phones on-line all the time; nice ones too! Also, you should consider cell phone insurance. I am paying only $4.00 a month to insure my phone.

Did anyone ever read that story about the guy who was riding his bike down the road with an onvelope full of cash in his pocket, and it all blew all over the highway?

I remember that story, that poor guy got pretty screwed. As I recall he only got like 300 back.

Whats the free phone deal you mentioned tx? I already have a contract for a year and a half so I can't start up a new one.

I read that on here a while ago.
Not a good idea to have stuff that you don't want to lose in your pockets. that are exposed like that. Inside pockets and the storage area. I have noticed also with the littl storage place I have on my R6 that I can't put much in there. but what ever. I don't need much more then my wallet cell phone and cig. and they will fit along side the tools and what not if I place it right.
Do you have insuracne on your cell phone? I do If I lose it or what ever I pay 50 dollars and get the same phone if avaible its like 5.00 dollars more a month. but hey when I need it will be there.

Sorry to hear about your cell phone loss, Wally.

My loss on the bike wasn't quite as severe as yours. I once lost a couple of letters I was taking to the post office. I had them in my bag but forgot to zipper the pocket closed and they flew out when I was leaving an intersection. I heard people honking as I rode away and quickly glanced to the side where I saw the open pocket of the bag. I pulled into a parking lot and walked back to the intersection to look for the dropped letters, all the while feeling like a total moron. Luckily I found one of them (turned out it was the more important of the two) and headed for the post office. The lost letter had a check for my cell phone bill, which I ended up just calling about and paying by credit card.

Lesson learned: make sure everything is secure before starting the ride.

Back in 1973, I was riding home from work in Manhattan Beach...on my Yam 360 enduro...At luch time, I rode home to get something to eat, I also checked the mail, my tax refund check came, so..I put it in my pocket so I could deposit it at the bank, welp, I get to the bank after work, fill out my deposit slip....and NO frekin check.. Seems it fell out of my pocket in route to the bank, so like a madman, I traced my ride, I actually rode my bike at about 5 mph next to the curb, looking, and looking..I was gettin pretty scared, and nervous..anyway, after retaceing my steps twice, I finally found it..RELIEF..!!! Oh, the check was only 693.00 but back then that was a nice piece of change...

You can bet your life, I NEVER, EVER carried anything of value, or importance in my pockets again...except my wallet..
As for carrying my cell, I put it in the trunk..of my gixxer, raped in a hand towel.

Lost my checkbook with credit cards when I was a bit younger. Stopped at a friend's apartment, left it on the seat, came out, went home then back to the apartment, it was long gone. Called the bank and the credit card companies. The fella already had charged up a fortune on both cards. Knew it was a young male by what he bought on the cards. Put stop payments on the checks in the account and bounced five good checks, what a mess. Of course, I was doing things back then that contributed to my absent mindedness, so I deserved what I got, to some extent.

Coming home from the best two-day trip ever (Mt St Helens and Windy Ridge) I felt something hit my lap, then my knee and looked down just in time to see my digital camera bouncing off my foot and then keeping pace with me as it flew apart on the fog line. I had wanted to buy a new camera anyway and replace the old brick-sized Kodak, but I had 2 days worth of great pictures on it! My friend and I stopped and went back to find the wreckage. In ~30minutes we found everything except one rechargeable battery! I put it back togther on the side of the road, popped batteries back in and IT WORKED! Matter of fact, it still works! And I got to keep all the pictures. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I have bad problems with losing cell phones off bikes, twice out of my pockets and once caues in all my wisdom i left it sitting on the tank, all 3 times i felt the usual thump on my leg and my foot, and looked in my rear view mirror just in time to see it becoming one with the pavement, although i must say out of the 3 phones i've given to the interstate, my nextel motorola faired best, it took two whole bounces before it exploded into tiny pieces, oh well. I've lost my wallet off the bike once, managed to go back and find it though, there was no money in it though so I wasn't worried. And one time in the middle of summer (it was hot hot hot) I stopped at sonic and got a strawberry cheesecake shake, man those things are yummy, well - there wasn't much traffic I was going down residential streets, and i had my right hand on the throttle, and my left hand was holding the drink so that the straw came up under my helmet, and god decided to give me a little pat on the back for being an idiot, i hit a little bump in the road and my right hand bounced over to the kill switch, so the bike started to slow down rather quickly and the cup flew out of my hand while I went to put my hands where they should've been, the cup broke (sytrofoam) on the tank and the shake went all over my pretty 900rr, i clicked back on the kill switch and drove home with my dirty bike, and a crotch full of cold shake :crying:

cmd954, I did something like that once, only it was a plastic 1 liter coke bottle with a straw in it, and I chunked it up and to the left when I saw the guy pulling out in front of me, the suv going the other way must have been a little pissed about something cause he suddenly locked it up right there in the road, but I didn't stop to ask why. :D

I lost my wallet that had my Drivers License and ATM card and Gas money and my Key to my old CBR 600.. I usually stick it inside the inside jacket pocket .. well this day I was too excited to be picking up my newly purchased 929 and leaving the 600 in the guys driveway I stuck it in the outside pocket and off I went.. I didn't discover it being lost until I met up with the fellas from the Detriot Area to fill up the gas tank before continueing on (keep in mind I'm 2.5 hrs south of home) I felt horrible that I had to ask for someone to pay for my gas so that I could return home and miss out on the day's ride.. well thanks to a very nice guy named Justin he offered to pay for my gas that day so that I could still ride with everyone. Then it struck me that my key to the 1989 CBR 600 I wanted to sell was also on that wallet too... well the roads Justin led us on that day took all my worries out of my mind and I had so much FUN.... well when I returned hubby told me the State Police called looking for me... apparetnly a nice person found my wallet on the side of the highway and turned it in to them. It still had all it's original contents but with a pretty bent up key attached... with the use of a visegrip and plyers we were able to straighten it up enough to work again... Lesson well learned dont' use outside pockets.. even though I didn't entend to do so to begin with :p I was just to excited over getting to take my 929 out to the streets for an all day ride with the fellas... :thumb:
