I'm checking on safety wiring options, and noticed that a couple of online catalogs have some safety wiring kits that include special washers or something like that, and therefore require no drilling. Anyone have any experience with these? Particularly experience with them getting past CCS tech inspection without trouble? Would I be better off just doing all the damn drilling and safety wiring it the old fashioned way?

You are still going to have to safety wire your oil filler cap, oil filter and dipstick anyway, so, even if these washers are OK with CCS, you will still have to do a lot of drilling.

Safety wire your oil filter by snugging a hoseclamp around it and then wiring the clamp to the bike somewhere so that the filter can't unscrew.

Buy some drill bits, safety pliers, safety wire and, most impotrant of all, a spring-loaded centerpunch to start the hole before drilling.

Oh, yeah a spare oil drain plug wouldn't hurt, just in case...

Somewhere there is a thread on this subject where a bunch of really great guys gave me tons of great advice. Do some searching and all of your questions should get answered.

Drilling isn't as bad as you think. :)

Don't buy your safety wire pliers from motorcycle suppliers either. Get them from Northern or Harbor Freight. :)

JC would work, but I also purchased my pliers form Harbor Freight. Like $10 or so.
Another way to look at the safety wire debate. You drill a whole bunch and that is saved weight! :D After all, thats part of the game. A couple of my bolt heads look like swiss cheese (bought it that way).
Drilling just seems to be the best way. The holes are reusable, how long do the washers last?
