damn those Toyota Tercels!

I went for a short ride last night. I was nearing a state park with some nice curvy roads; only had a Cadillac and then a Tercel(an old one)in front of me. The Caddy turns off, so I think I'll just pass the Toy and have a clear shot at the twisties. But then the guy starts speeding up and before I have a chance to pass, we hit the beginning of the park. He's about 4 car lengths ahead of me as we go into the first set of turns marked at 30mph; we take them at 70. I couldn't believe he was able to stay on the road, let alone in the right lane without flipping the car. I was pretty impressed as I was leaned over pretty far. This continues as we hit a straightaway; he hits 80, I follow. Another turn, marked 25, taken at 60. Finally he turns off on a side road, so he must live in the area and be very familiar with the road. I gave him a honk and a wave as I continued on. The kid was actually a decent driver, so I had to give him some credit.
I had to turn around at the end of the road(about 5m)and ride it again, turn around, ride it again. Can't let those Tercels embarrass me :)
I guess this proves it's all in the driver, and not necessarily the vehicle.

It's all in the coffee can.

I've found that most of the kids with late model sports cars with coffee can mufflers, lowered, intake systems, speed parts all around, can't drive their way out of a wet paper bag. All show, no go. Thus my amazement described above at a vintage Tercel actually being driven well.

Need I say anything.

inanima, where were you riding?

i've been thinking about bringing the suzi down to md sometime. when i used to keep my f2 in md, i never found a good place to ride. i'd go out 108 (near columbia) to some farm roads, but there was a lot of traffic still.

btw, in his defense, there's no friggin' traction in baltimore, i think your car has to be leaking anti-freeze to pass inspection.

live in odenton during the week, just don't like md much.

Never did I say I couldn't pass him, or go faster than him, or show his cage driving @ss my taillight on my "slow" Honda :D
I don't need to prove my mandhood by blowing a kid out of the water with my obviously above average driving skill. I found it fun to follow him. The defense rests.

This was out at Rocks State Park around 8pm. Don't know if you're familiar with the area?
Too much traffic on the south side of Baltimore; I usually ride northern Harford, Baltimore, Carroll counties. Unless you go out to Westerm MD or selected areas around here, the traffic is horrendous, slow, and I think they passed a state law requiring the antifreeze. :D

Inanima, I know exactly what you mean. Ever notice how most of 'em, at least in my neck o' da woods, have a smacked-up bodypart or two on their vehicles. Must be that they are like the squids who take pride in showing off a wrecked fairing, their badge of courage.

inanima,
our group usually has people from northern VA, DC and MD that get together on sat and sundays to hit the twisties. been upto MD several times but prefer the backroads of VA since they are a little less crowded. but the best is hitting Skyline Drive...takes around an hour to get there but worth the time!! :D :D Hwy 211 is one of the best roads with great pavement (as smooth as a track if i may add) with a great variety of twisties....
let me know if you are interested...

Tony,
what part of MD do you work in during the week? you might wanna stay back on a weekend to ride some of the roads in this neighborhood.
