Well...I did it. I found a great deal on a 2000 Blackbird and traded my VFR800 in. I pick it up next weekend. To this end I would like to say a couple of things. (1) F the busa. Yep thats right. F the busa. To all those b's on the street that dismiss the Bird nowadays because of the "all faster" busa. Get a life. Take them both to the track....and then will see who comes in first. Not to mention you can go a hell of a lot futher on a BlackBird across the country then you can on a Busa. Want a true track rocket? Buy a R1 cause and R1 is gonna take a Busa and a bird down everytime on the track. In my mind the Busa and the bird have the same performance. And you can actualy take a trip with the bird. Oh yeah..half the guys buying bikes because they go fast? Ha! Half of them do not know how to ride them. Its all show. Hhahahaha! SO there I said it. I just bought the best damn bike in the world. Nuff said.
But I have to wait a week!!!??? Shoot me now I cant take it.

Well congrats on your Blackbird Alpha! I have never ridden either the Bird or the Busa, they're just too damn big for me. They are both great bikes though, for what they are: Monster straight line bullets! I will say I like the look of the Bird much better than the Busa, especially in the new grey.

Actually they put out the Busa in a Blue white/silver color this year...and it looks well ahh.. nice. Yep nice. But it doesnt change the fact that the Boous is still uncomfortable as hell. Oh yes..Titanium is nice. I am pretty damn happy right now. Just...another.....6.....days.......

Alpha, congrats on the new bike. Solved your VFR hop-up dilemma, didn't it? I know the Bird is pretty heavy, how does the weight compare to the Busa and the ZX-12? Sitting on one on the showrrom floor, it feels like it carries the weight very well.

Congrats on the double X!! I love those bikes, they're quite big for me to handle too. But, TJ wants to get one eventually and I'm sure he won't be able to keep me from trying it out.

I don't care for the looks of the Busa either but the new color is better.

My brother works at a motorcycle shop as a mechanic. They do mods to some of the local track bikes and street racer bikes. They also do testing for some of the local small time teams.

They installed a NO2 kit on a CBR1100XX, fitted it with aftermarket pipe and did some fule mapping then did a top end test for the owner. My brother took it to 206mph in one mile from a 100mph roll-on. Made a real nice video of it also.

Should be a very fun bike. Enjoy!

Very cool. I have been thinking about putting on a MR. Turbo turbo. Claimed performance is a 9 second 1/4 and a 230 - 40 top speed. Not bad for the $2800 they ask for it. We shall see.

As if the bird wont be enough....for a while. :)

Out of curiousity...where does one take a bike to get it to go 230-240? I can't imagine any tracks have a straightaway long enough for something like that and I really can't imagine that on the street. And also, are the regular race tires rated for speeds that high? That would be a bad time to shred one.

I do not know of any track in my area where I could go that fast. You are right. But....accleration with the turbo is supposed to be God awfull fast. I think if I could find a Nascar track I might be able to do it. I want a bike that has pulling power all through the range I could ever use it. This means if I have a bike that can do 230 I would likely only ever go 180...but through that range it would continue to pull like a rocket.

Sean/Alphawolf,
The bike shop where my brother works does some of their testing on a stretch of highway outside of Birmingham, Al called I-459. It is a 4 lane with about 10 mile straights and very smooth, also has good wind protection.

The local fuzz will look the otherway due to LOW traffic and the Police chief is related (like everyone is down there) to the owners of the shop. They even helped the shop get a radar gun.

Well....as I get ready to leave work I realize I will not be able to relay my experiences on my new Blackbird until Monday of next week. All I can say is that if you do not here from me again...the Bird has likely proved to be to much for me and I am no doubt either in jail or laying in a fiery heap on a highway or side road some place. Goodbye until then.

Oh hey Pete I was going through the posts and noticed the weight question. Ok.... Honda says it weighs 491. I have read articles from people who say it actually weighs closer to 550.
The deciding factor in my buying a bird over the other bikes out there was after I rode a friends ’98 bird. I couldn’t believe how smooth it was. No vibration no wind turbulence just pure power and when ever you wanted it. The power was just there. If you want to go 20 mph faster…a small, and I mean small turn on the throttle would do it.
On my VFR I feel like I am going fast…On the bird you do not feel the speed…you just do it.
Did I say 1 day ?...
23hrs 59 minutes and 1 second
23hrs 58 minutes and 30 seconds.

Oh ah..later

Congrats on the new machine Alf. I myself have a 97 XX. I call it my stealth bike because it is big black and quiet. You don't even know it's comming until its to late. Try to keep it under 80 mph I bet you can't do it. Mine just seems to want to settle in at around 85. I have to be careful when passing cars cause before I know it I'm up around 150.

Hey Alpha Wolf!

What gives with the XX? I have a 99 and love it! If you got a new one [00], what tires came stock? Thanks.

Hi Prometheus, Alpha left this site in a ball of flames a couple of months ago, after flaming the concept of Ducati ownership.

This thread was started on the 28th of Feb.

My 97 bird came with D205's as stock.

What up?

I don’t agree that I left in a ball of flames. In fact I am sure I left for the good of the forum. It seems I stepped a few feet without meaning to. So I ….the person that I am left the forum with the best intentions.
I have decided to come back for a while to see what’s been going on this past year. Mayhap I will stay mayhap not. Whatever the case I look forward to your postings.
