There are only nine possible answers:

10 - 19 ---> 9
20 - 29 ---> 18
30 - 39 ---> 27

and so on.

To confuse the issue, he uses around 20 different symbols instead of nine. The trick is to assign a symbol such that no two possible answers have the same symbol. I worked this out on a spreadsheet and it is suprisingly simple to do.

Either I'm missing something or that doesnt explain the whole thing

This is selecting an answer when we already know the result. In his example, he says "For example, if you choose 23: 2+3 = 5. 23 minus 5 will give you your answer." What is "23 minus 5"? 18. So we click the crystal ball and the symbol for 18 comes up. It can't go wrong.

How about 78. 7+8 =15. 78 - 15 is 63. Now before you click look at the symbol for 63. Of course that symbol will come up!

I feel like a dumb ass but I still dont get it.

There are 9 possible answers right? And they all have different symbols? so shouldnt this thing be right only 11% of the time?

The "pick a number, add the digits and subtract" part is all slight of hand. It doesn't matter what number we start with. Let's say I start with a number, do the math, and my answer is 44. I click on 44 and I get, not suprisingly, the symbol shown for 44. The starting number is not important, only the final number. The symbol only indicates we did our math right.

Ok... So I'm looking at this thing, and I can pick anything from 10-99 right? So off I go to do the math.
10-19 =>9
20-29=>18
30-39=>27
40-49=>36
50-59=>45
60-69=>54
70-79=>63
80-89=>72
90-99=>81

So far I'm completely with you. Regardless of what number I pick, I'll always get one of those 9 answers.

ok, I think I see where this thing was confusing me. The symbol for all the 9 answers is the same (this time a little sun), however after I click the symbols change around, leading me to believe that each of the 9 answers having a different symbol... Thats what was bugging me, I figured it should always come up with the same symbol....

Thanks for taking the patience with my dumb ass...

what you talking about? didn't work for me. I guess my mind is overly complicated and could not read it. Stupid flash.

*The flash uses a series of if/then statements in actionscripting when you use the mouse to see what number you want. Try using the chart without the mouse and it'll be wrong most the time.

no it won't. It's all variables of nine. No matter what you do, it will come out to a multiple of 9. I noticed it on my second try. This is like jesus syndrome... something so simple being seen as so amazing, and all you gotta do is weed through the bullshit to find the answer.

If it's 90% wrong, then your math is wrong. Look at the list of symbols before clicking on the ball. All of the multiples of 9 are the same symbol. If you do the math correctly, then you will get a multiple of 9 as your answer. All of the symbols for 9, 18, 27, 36, etc. are the same, and you will only get one of those answers. Since everybody only looks at the answer they got, they seem amazed.
