brain? Just wondering what is it and what is the purpose of the hump on the back of the racers leathers? Is it aerodynamics or neck safety or both?

newenough.com calls it a neck protector.

when you're in a full race crouch you can feel it against the back of your helmet.

good q, but probably belongs in the gear section, so i'm gonna move it there.

Hey, don't listen to this guy ^^^^- he doesn't know what he is talking about...the hump is made for motorcycle riding HUNCHBACKS. They are custom jackets. LOL

Those humps are suppose to protect your neck from hyperextending in the event of a get off. If you were to do a face plant into cement, the pad is there to keep your head from touching your ass/back (thus breaking it).

A guy I ride with who's an x-racer has one on his suit.
