Some poeple mentioned getting an alarm for your bike in response to Arif's post. Someone let me know where/how to do/get this? I really need one... someone tried to steal my bike last week... ignition stripped and everything. They failed (thank god) so the bike is in the shop but I really really don't want to go through that again. I pretty much had a nervous breakdown when I found my bike. Oh and I was parked in my garage too! The guy tore the side paneling off my garage to get in! So much for lousy apt complex security...

I have a chaterbox on mine. Works great. I wired the starter kill mechanism to the ignition system so you can't roll start it if the alarm goes off. But, they can still pick the bike up and load it into a truck(chain it to a tree or something). I've heard that gorilla is coming out with an alarm with a type of lo-jack tracking system on it. God only knows how much it will cost.

I almost got it !! Just teasing ! Sorry to hear about that man! In my opinion if they really want your bike,(R6 very probable) they gonna get it ! Believe that!...

The head manager at Harley Davidson Montreal
had his harley stolen in his house! They broke in put a gun to him and told him to cough it up! Don't matter if it is in the garage a nd chained to the ground..

I have an Avital alarm on my 6R. The thing I really hate about it is the siren keeps going bad on it. I think the pressure or lack of when riding on the freeways breaks the membrane. Other than that is kills the ignition, can't be hot wired, has a tilt sensor, bump sensor. The thing I really like is the remote is built onto one of the keys of the bike so you don't have to have the dumb key fob dangling around. I got it free from my dealer when I bought my bike so I can't tell you a price. I have heard some stories of bikes batteries dying due to alarm systems. Never happened to mine yet. Same stock battery for two years +.

what palomar said is correct. I have the same exact alarm and i have nothing but troulbe with it. The siren kept going out and i had problams with my electrical. I ended up disconnecting it. If they really want your bike it doesnt matter what you put on it they will still take it.

IMO, the only logical way to make sure your bike doesn't get stolen is to hire some armed guards to watch over it 24/7. You know, some tough-lookin' guys with AK-47's, maybe a couple sharpshooters. :D :D :D :D

I'm supposed to have an alarm with my insurance policy and was thinking of one of the Zena disk locks. Has anyone used one of these? With EFI, I really don't want to give the dealer any excuse about an alarm messing up the EFI if I ever have problems with it.

If nothing else, it should save me the cost of another fender. OUCH!

Having something stolen is not funny but I will share a humorous story about a guy that had the rims stolen off of his car. Read on....

In a quite suburb during the middle of the night a group of thieves snuck into this guys driveway, twenty yards from his front door, and stole the rims off of his car. No trace of who did it and no noise was heard. Pretty balsy if you ask me. Here comes the almost funny part. Weeks go by, rims were replaced, and it was written off as a once in a lifetime bad luck event. During the middle of the night everyone was asleep in bed. The car was parked in the attached garage this time. In the garage were tools, odds and ends and a refrigerator. When they awoke they found that someone had stolen their rims again! These crooks broke into their garage, used their tools to steel their rims and to top it off drank their Mountain Dew and left empty cans everywhere! Talk about guts. These slick criminals were scott free for a while until they were finally busted trying to robb another poor victim. In the end the only protection we have is insurance. If someone wants what you have they will most likely get it. I laughed my but off the first time he told me what happened to his car. Stealing rims is one thing but using the tools in the garage and drinking the Mountain Dew was hilarious.

This is a good idea, thieves only steal what they can sell later or actually would want for themselves... :D

Hey Rug Burn (cute username by the way),

I got a xena lock for my bike after I got it back from the shop... ok here's where I vent about how SLOOOOOW the Yamaha factory is... took a friggin month to replace the ignition. Anyways, I got a xena lock and it's been good so far. It's kept me from riding off with it on cause it goes off as soon as you move the bike and the damn thing is LOUD. I dunno how effective it is for stopping thieves cause I've heard of people getting their bikes stolen even with a disk lock but at least the alarm is annoying as hell until they get it off. :)
