Hi All-

Dad...soon we'll be singing Joan Baez songs and releasing doves into the air. I got a great laugh from your post! :D

Vash...you're 100% correct about the cameras peering into all aspects of peoples' lives. It's an ugly slippery slope that must be avoided and safely eliminated via privacy legislation.

Cookeetree...you're making me very concerned. The idea of being closely monitored by so-called authorities should be repulsive to everyone. The various employees in those jobs are just like everyone else. They have their strengths, weaknesses, problems, stresses, strain, intelligence, deficiencies, successes, and failures. They AREN'T superhuman. They shouldn't have so much insight into my or your travels.

What if some well-connected criminal decides he needs access to that treasure-trove of a database to plan his or her next crime? Whether through hackers or bribing information from low-wage government personnel, the opportunity for abuse is staggering.

Vash, isn't it Maryland or Ohio where they recently instituted a statewide system of tracking vehicles via cellphone? They say it's for traffic pattern monitoring, but such a system essentially has the same capabilities as the camera system you described.

BJ, Thanks to the "Patriot" Act, the government can already access and log virtually every aspect of your life, without a warrant or even a judicial review, and without your knowledge.

Privacy and freedom from govt intrusion are becoming anachronistic concepts in this country, and so many people are falling for the weak justification that "If you're not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about".....

In this province of B.C. they had the usual vans with a fat RCMP constable in them taking photos of speeding cages. I do not know what they were called. Still when the Provincial Govt had a big vote they had to go out.

Mind you the RCMP & city council have voted in some cameras in the park area where drug tradding in going one, fighting & such.

All I can say is that in a while I will be to darn old to give a darn. Which reminds my of PM Trudea with his great words of "Not in my bedroom" or however it went though BlueJays would know that better. No I have never been a Liberal & always a Conservative BJ.

There has been world of cameras to take photos of those that run the orange warning light. To many are doing this & so being they are running the green light. Aim is to not fine them, but to send them a letter that the Orange warning light is for one to stop before the Red comes on. According to law ONLY at the Green light can traffic travel & not the Orange or Red. If they install them I really do not know.

Now as I get older I just might pick up a good Bench Rest Rifle & find out where these cameras are or things othes & myself do not like & take them out by a light round from a 222 or 223 bullet tip as distance would not be much farther then 100 or 200 yds typical for Bench Rest Shooting though I might choose a second rifle with 243 Winchester for gusty days & especially 200 yds. For it would be fun for a while till I am nailed, but then by that time I would not give two hoots as to old.

I remember during the days of those Vans with a camera in them some cage people or m/cist would park their vehicles in front of the camera to walk back to the RCMP constable to complain about said system or about how they were given a ticket for speeding when there was an error in the LP & they were far, far away from said area at that time. I liked their gall.

True I can see cameras on posts a School Zones for in so many areas people often go through them way to fast during school hrs. Like in the summer, of school time, many of the teen age kids go tearing through the school zone at two or three times the school zone speed limit as they like the attention on themselves by the others. In one spot the Aquatic Center is also on the school property so that not only means young kids, but pre-school classes to elderly people, many on wheel chairs to electrically propelled ones, that are using the swimming pool so often.

Of interest in this small town of S'land the main street & all adjacent streets are set at Max Speed limit of 30kph & that is the same as the school zones. Even the MAIN street in the city of Penticton is the same -----yes 15mph!!!!!!!

Hi Smitty-

Using the infernal cameras for target practice would be a rather direct method to illustrate your disapproval with senseless monitoring! Just don't get in trouble. ;)

My first inclination would be to use a .375 H&H FMJ for penetration of the camera housing. But Smitty, we are being so 20th century. A 100 W pulsed industrial laser would fry the CCD and internals of the camera just fine. This could easily be rigged in the back of van or something. We would have to be careful the camera didn't catch the image of our van just before firing.

Are we plotting some lawless action that will show total disregard for the government? I'm in! I'll be the driver and Smitty can be set up in the back of the van taking out the cameras as we fly by them.

To be honest Dad some of your posts make one 'ell of a lot sense to me. Allow me to rephrase that to "basically all your posts make good sense to me". I sometimes do not get that deep into the discussion(s) as I feel what you typed was "right on".

DL mind you with this modern age I probably sound like a stick & stone man compared to all the new ways rather then actually using a vintage f/arm.

Though to-day at the range was a ball as I hammered a lot of ammo in 45ACP & 38 Spl., true a bit of .22 & around 14 rnds of 9X19. Now positive I am going to try a powder Winchester has discarded for something else. For I have something like 11+ pounds of it & have been using it in my 38Spl with good groupings so might just as well go onto loads for the 45ACP. Like different powders are definate challenges for good loads & good groupings. With 11+ pounds of it & only using 3.1 gr for 38 Spl & possibly 4.8 to 5.0gr for the 45 that will last for some time. You see for indoor shooting at just 25 yds one does not need heavy loads.

I've seen similar camaras (gatsos) in london. The problem is any reflective coating on the plate will disrupt the photo. So some of the locals see them as a toy ( sometimes posing while doing their favorite trick) rather than a way to moniter speeders.

Say you have a helmet on. I dont see how they could ticket you anything until they can prove that it was you on the bike.

They build a database of your movement... Chances are you speed down the same roads... They'll just have someone waiting for you.

Except for the effectivness. This will be close to 100% effective. Thus anytime you speed, they will know. Not just if there happens to be a plane in the air...

With speed and red light cameras over here, they mail the fine to the registered owner of the vehicle.

That person can then declare that another person was operating the vehicle at that time, but they have to put the person's details, including licence number, on the form.

People use that as a loophole to avoid accumulating points on their licence. They "sell" the fine to someone else who then declares they were driving and gets points on their licence.

In a three year period, you can accrue no more than twelve demerit points. Then you lose your licence.

There is a big push to put black boxes on cars. Some high end cars already have them. If Congress mandates all motor vehicles to have black boxes, including bikes, then we are screwed.

BTW, I can remember back in the 1960s when they proposed mandatory emission controls on passenger cars. A lot of people said it would never happen. Too expensive and the American public wouldn't stand for their engines being messed with. Love Canal happened, the EPA was born, and the rest is history as they say.

Mate, it's called breaking the law. How is it any different to being caught by a cop and getting ticketed on the spot???

You wanna play, you gotta be prepared to pay.

I'm not altar boy. I do my fair share of speeding. However, if I get caught, I'm, "Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir". It's my fault, not his.

Found a simple solution from the cameras, and do not pay fines

I ordered it for car numbers, I also want to order it on a motorcycle!
Has anyone tried number stickers?
