I took my bike to a local dealer and they found the following:

The front axle bolt was loose. The pich bolts were tight but the axle was loose causing the bearings to not load up properly causing the noise I was hearing (I think I explained it right). They tightened it up and the noise is now gone.

The chain needs to be replaced as it was apparently not maintained by the prevoius owner.

They are also going to look at the sprockets and see if they were damaged by the chain. If so they will replace them as well.

So the mystery is apparently solved but they still have the bike until Tuesday.

You gotta be one happy boy now! Enjoy your new (quiet) bike. Stop by if you are in the neighborhood.
