Biker killed in high speed crash
A motorcyclist is dead after slamming into the rear of a car changing lanes on a Perth freeway.
The 26-year-old man from the inner-city suburb of Leederville was riding a 1000cc Yamaha motorbike when it crashed into the Holden Statesman at 4.50pm yesterday. (Footnote from Cookeetree: A Statesman is a big, luxury sedan.)
The accident occurred on the Kwinana freeway, near Rowley Road in Perth's north, West Australian police said.
Speed may have been a factor in the death of the man, police said.
"The Statesman was hit with such force that it has pushed it into a Chrysler jeep towing a trailer," a police spokesman said. "The trailer has then rolled on to its side in the middle of the freeway. The rider has then fallen from his bike and hit a steel guard wire."
Police closed the freeway for four hours.
The motorcyclist died at the scene and the female driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
