Gentlemen, I need some advice. Taking the piss out of me is welcome too but please add a bit of advice while your at it.

I have a mate who is gonna be handing over to me a Suzuki GSXR 400 for free. No installments, nothing. Just a change of ownership and it is mine.:thumb:

The bike is in running order. However, I think the pistons are gonna fry soon. I have no use for the bike as I already have my Fireblade to run around on. Selling it would be pointless as the money that I could get from it would only pay for maybe five full tanks on my Blade.

Therefore I figure that doing up the GSXR would be a good option. I have a bike solely dedicated to the track. It does not have to be the ultimate track tool for a 400. It just has to be decent enough. This could serve as a training bike for me till I can get a larger bike. I definitely cannot afford a larger bike now and this seems to be a good idea. I have seen this bike being used in the Johor series alongside Fireblades 400, RVFs and ZXR400s. That would make it quite a feasible thought right?

I would guess that an engine overhaul would be about $2000. There might be other stuff to do to it but it will definitely not cost as much as a larger litre bike.

What do you guys think?

Cheers.

Come on now gentlemen...

What a load of disappointment.....

I come to my computer, log on to this forum, feeling all excited about the comments, advice, suggestions that I would be receiving from the members of this esteemed club and what do I get?

Nothing...only 19 views on the board.... 19 views without a reply...

hahaha ... fair call bro !!! ..

ok, firstly, what's your budget .... how much do you want to spend on this thing.

Going by the state of the poor 400 of your, I would say .. ferk all ..

If this is the case .... do you REALLY want to put your life and neck on the line on a bike that you are not happy with and do not feel safe on .....

So .. my call ... if you can spend enough to make it safe ... go for it ... and proceed to spend money accordingly ... such as:

1. decent service (oil, plugs, filters .. ra ra), compression check.
2. brake overhaul
3. upgrade suspension i.e recon the shock and forks.
4. chassis grease

The ride the shite out of it till you crash it.

free bike Oh yeah

Grab it NOW.
Track tool in the making
Step one: See if you can store it at PG. Depending on this will determine if you have to make it road legal
Step 2: How shagged is the motor??? Will it last while you sort the runnin gear? ( compression test !)
If it is then budget for a "good " service to make it last ( valves, filters, oil, plugs, fuel filter(s) etc).
Step 3: Is the bugger straight? No point spending money on somethin thats gonna ride like a bent coat hanger!
Step 4: if it's straight ..budget for
a/Swing arm bush
b/ head stock bearings
c/ wheel bearings front and back
d/ gear wheel carrier bearing if any
e/ cush drives
f/ new chain and sprokets
g/ fork revalve/ service ( seals oil etc)
h/ rear schock. rebuild if pos or replacement
i/ new battery
Theres a loadas stuff you can do to save money and if you get through the above i'll get you goin on the other stuff.

While i'm on a roll
a/ stp wingin and get that chip off yer shoulder bout posts:crying:
b/ if you post dont expect a reply in 2 millisecs you knob :finger:
c/ even with a free bike you're still a cant:twofinger
