Well I spent the better part of Sunday trying to build my new toy .. a remote control airplane.

Its called an E-starter, which I had presumed meant that I'd have it up in the sky 10 mins after opening the box.

Well, a 2 pack of epoxy resin and a tube of superglue later the thing now is beginning to assume the profile of a plane... now to get the guts into the thing.

Did away with the stock motor, in favour of an uprated one together with a different/bigger/better prop!!

Still a way to go before we're airborne.

A colleague in the office has been into this for ages. He's got several radio-controlled helicopters, these things are massive and you don't want to be anywhere near 'em, the blades could chop your head off. Anyway, he was telling me he was flying one of these (which apparently are very tricky to fly), he lost control and it actually flew into an open window in an HDB block. Needless to say he didn't try to retrieve it.

This guy is quite a nutter, he's also got a motorised skate-board, he was out on this going downhill when he remebered there were no brakes so he threw himself off and was pretty badly bruised. I tried to interest him in motorcycling but he thought that'd be too dangerous!

christmas day 2001

I have one of those stories too...

Chrsitmas afternoon 2001 , suitably fortified with a cocktail cabinets worth of pop a good freind of mine decided to fly his plane straight out of his garden.

Nothing wrong with that other than the MRT runs through it only 100 yds away from the house. The inevitable happened when owing to pilot error the plane crashed laned onto the MRT tracks, stopping a train in the process.

The Plane was conviscated on the spot by the train driver and this friend of mine summoned to appear before the MRT management to explain himself.

He escaped a fine and the plane was returned ...

MAIDEN FLIGHT BECKONS

All servos now fitted and in place, tested and working.

Had to reverse some of the channels though and in the process the thing took off round my study, when I reversed the throttle controller inadvertently.

Gave me the fright of my life and was like chasing a manic mosquito across the desk.

Sporting a couple of dents already as a consequence, but wouldn't be mine if that weren't the case.... look at Garfield, the Blue Cat and even my Fazer !!!
