96 yzf 600? 1st bike?advice?

I am 25, been married for almost 4 years and would like to be around for many more. I consider myself to be a responsible person etc..etc. I am buying my first bike and have relatively no experience. The salesman at the yamaha shop is setting me up with a 96 yzf600. It has about 14,000 miles on it but looks really clean. It hasn't been dropped, and seems to be in good condition. They are asking $4,500 and were asking $5,300. Am I being suckered or am I getting a deal? Any one have one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. also, if anyone is from the Beaverton OR area....lets ride>>>>

hey, welcome to the forum. 4500 is a reasonable price from the dealer, you probably could get it cheaper from a personal party, but the dealer price sounds OK. Make sure you get a shop manual thrown in on the deal, because they probably won't give you a helmet. I'll be at the Fusa race at PIR on August 6th. I am going to race in OMRRA's superbike race if it isn't full. That would be cool if I met you there. I don't have a street bike at the moment, just my racer. I imagine you'll find plenty of people to ride with at the races. It all sounds good to me. :)

lenny,

Welcome. :) I agree with Trevor. It is a reasonable deal at $4500 but not a steal by any means. They are good bikes. :)

Welcome! Just glad to hear you aren't buying an R1 or Hayabusa first.

welcome. i would say that u r getting a fairly good deal as well.. & from what i hear that bike is an excellent street bike & u should be able to learn safely on it.. is that on oxymoron? "learn safely" especially when talking about sport bikes. :D
