I have been looking into stage I and II jet kits, and want to know if they could potentially cause engine damage. Also what kits are reccommended, and are their any other cheap power upgrades available. I already have a full exhaust.

Ivans Performance has a good kit for a full system. Stage 1 Yno jet or Factory will do ya good for a slip on, stage 2 for a full exhaust.

Basically since it is carbs and not fuel injected there will be a trade off somewhere in the RPM range. Put simply there will be somewhere in the rpm where the fuel air ratio is not perfect. A little rich here or a little lean there won't kill your engine unless it is at tthe rpm you spend most of your riding time at. If it runs generally richer you will dirty your oil faster and foul plugs at a quicker rate, a little lean is ok and good for power but can cause engine temps to rise and damage pistons and rings in an extreme case.

Pretty much all the jet kits produced have been dynoed and tested extensively to reach the optimum performance (lean/rich) compromise so you don't have to get concerned. Oh but they do need to be properly installed to be effective and work as they were intended...
