I don't know how i've had my bike for almost 3 months now and not yet topped it out, but i haven't.... Mainly because i haven't had a chance to take any long trips due to school/tennis(i play in college). Up until tonight i'd taken it to 130/140 a few times with no problem...get's there a lot quicker than my f4i ever did!

I was riding back from my gf's tonight on 95 at about 9:30...lots of open room so i thought i'd push it a little. It's crazy how fast these "little" 600's can get up to 140! haha Anyways, i got to an idicated 158mph. It felt like it still coulda kept going but the problem was my helmet felt like it was ready to tear right off my head! Now that i've had my helmet for awhile it's starting to get a little loose...it's a medium but i'm thinking i'll either get a little bit bigger liner, or downgrade to a small sometime. I could still see the road ahead ok but was a struggle to make out the speed...

So i'm just wondering what seems to be the the average top speed for the 600 and just out of curiosity the 750 and 1000?

Well i took another shot at it tonight...made sure to run out every gear as well. Got up to 158mph again no problem in 6th gear, i believe i still had about 2k-1500rpm's to go so i know i can do better than that...problem was i was coming up on some cars so i had to back off. At 158 tho, i was at WOT for probably 2-3 seconds without any increase... I couldn't imagine how much room i'd need to reach, say 170 my gix could do it!!

05 750 - topped out at 169 indicated, stock gearing, unmodified. At those speeds the aerodynamics of your helmet and suit, and tuck position count.

Also, you probably won't reach your rev limit in 6th gear - the top speed is limited by power, not RPM (it's the same with a 750 but it will go about 10 mph faster given equal conditions.)

The liter should reach 186 indicated and then get cut off by the ecu. For high speeds, its all about the tuck. How close your elbows are to the tank makes a big difference.

Be carefull with those high speed runs...

Yes - although the normal TRE mod for the 1K results in bypassing the speed limiter. The speedometer is still limited to 186 though.

I got my 05 750 up to 155mph and that was scary. I could not see a thing. I can't even find a road that is long enough to top off the bike.

06 750 bone stock. Been to 169 indicated, still climbing slowly at about 1mph per second, but ran out of open road. That was full tuck, chin on tank on a 60 degree day.

Best place to do it around here is on a major highway late at night or early in the morning. cement walls on the side of the road, 3-4 lanes wide, well lit, long endless straightaways, and minimal traffic..

Although i miss the curvey, hilly roads back in oregon, it's nice to know there won't be any deer jumping out in front of me!...not to be racist at all, but you do have to watch for black people down here. Seriously, i've had'em run right out in front of my car without any notice way too many times...sometimes even stopping in the headlights. lol It'd be mean to say if it wasn't that it was true.

On a slight downhill grade, i have hit my rev limiter on my 06 750 at 171, with a speedo healer installed and verified by GPS. It is possible to hit the limiter in 6th if you have the right conditions, as i did.
