I am looking into getting a literbike next year, I had my heart set on an 04' or an '05 R1, but the new Gixxer looks pretty trick. Some people have also told me that the Gixxer is the better bike. I still like the R1 though. I am just a street rider who goes to the track occasionally, but not for any serious racing. I ride an SV650 now, and it's no slowpoke, but I can't keep up with my friends on the track or the highway who are on the 4 cylinder rockets. I know the 600's have a lot of power, but it's all up top after you hit 7 grand. I'm used to the lower end power of my SV. Will the 1000's give me the torque I'm used to at the low end and the massive horsepower I so desire up top? I want my bike to have some big balls because there are those summer nights where I like to screw around (safely, lol)... :D

The fact of the matter is unless your really pushing it on the track you won't see much difference. They say the GSXR is a better bike only cause they're used to it. Its the same damn bike with a lil more power each year (like the last 5yrs). Yamaha is known more for its handling and style. I'd say go with the R1.:2cents:

I attached this. Should be a 1998 R1 with a slip-on racing a gsxr 1000 - not sure what year but newer. I dont think that they are racing but you can tell the zook cannot pull the R1.
