I have an 03 RC51 with Yoshi slip-ons, a powercomander, and K&N's. I have a miss/ studder from 4700-5200rpm. Its most noticeable around 70mph. It feels as though the bike is running out of gas. The bike now has 7000 miles on it. I thought it seemed to early to need a fuel filter ($60 @ dealer) or plugs. I was looking for some advise before I throw money at it. It has been doing this since before the K&N's so it's probably not too rich, maybe a lean condition? Anybody have a fuel map for the Powercomander with this combo?

First off have you done the flapper mod?

Second throw the K&N's away & put the OEM filters back in...

& finally what Powercommander version are you running?

Thanks for the reply:

PowerCommander IIIr

No I have not done the flapper mod

What is wrong with the K&N's? Airflow? Quality? It was doing this before they were installed so I didn't think that they were the problem.

They are most likely not the problem but they suck nonetheless

Ask around to any knowledgable RC51 community & you will get the same response.

I also have a write up on the topic of aftermarket filters on my RC51 site

www.rc51.org/airfilt.htm

Do the flapper mod & load the Sato high mount map from my site into your powercommander then let me know if you are still experiencing the problem

Thanks for the help. I did the flapper mod, removed the K&N's, and loaded the map you recommended. The bike ran great! I made the 1000 miles to Denver for my saddle sore ride without a problem. What a ride 18 1/2 hours there, and 14 1/2 hours home (with a little short-cut). Now I need a new rear tire!

So the tip is when LDH answers your question then do as he says & remember he does NOT favour K&N filters yet they seem to be one of the first things others seem to put on NOT realizing the draw-back of using them.

ahhh screw that... it's only money you can get more of that.

The important thing is that yer bike is running properly which is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!
