Two questions for anyone who has changed out the Eletronic Control Module on a lightning (02)

1. When installing a "new" module the manual calls for the throttle position switch (TPS) to be re-calibrated via the Harley Scanalyzer. An expensive item that I do not own. If installing the new unit how far off will the zeroed (idle) position be off? Will the full throttle positon also be out?

2. If finding that the "new" module does infact need calibration can I reinstall the original? Does it keep the already known settings? My belief with other types of systems the answer should be yes, but I'm not sure. If a battery were changed out one would hope I do not require a re-cal of the ECM each time!

You need to have a Buell dealer reset the TPS anytime a new ECM is put in or TPS is removed/replaced.

It will be off somewhere from zero to one million depending on how lucky you are. The signal is a changing value from about .5 - 5.0, if its off at idle it's off in the whole range.

You should be OK to ride a short while (to the dealer) without a reset, although you will not know the full potential of your bike unless the TPS is reset in cases mentioned above. Though some have not been able to keep their bikes running without an immediate service, most just experience poor performance until done.

You can reinstall the prior ECM without a service as long as the TPS has not been moved from the last location the ECM knew. The battery can be removed without regard for the setting it is "flashed" into the memory.
