Rundog Sounds like the shift fork is worn or bent. You don't have to rebuild the transmission, but you do have to remove the engine & split the cases in order to replace the shift fork and inspect the 2 second gears.

A shop will charge you several hundred dollars because removing & replacing the engine is time-consuming. You can move this job into the realm of affordability by removing the engine yourself & just taking it to the shop...Of course, if you can remove the engine you can also replace the fork yourself. It's not as hard as it may seem if you have moderate mechanical ability & a good manual.

Hope this helps....Good luck.

Help Question

Thanks guys for the response with the radiator fan, on my zx7, 1994, with 24k, that I paid $1500.00,

The trans probem is that when in second grear the bike falls back into neutral, dose this mean that the grear is going and how much is it going to cost to fix this type of problem, Does this mean that the trans needs to be rebuilt, and is it cost effective for me?

Please let me know what you think

Rundog The problem with your fan is almost certainly the fan switch, which is the brass fitting with wires you see on the side of your radiator. Easy to replace, but costs about 90 - 100 dollars. Cheap way out is to wire a switch directly into that circuit which you can operate manually.

Like Sideways says, you'll have to elaborate a little on that 2nd gear problem.....

sidewaysducati Can you elaborate?
What do you mean by not working right?

If you provide some details, I'm sure some folks around here with a lot of Kaw experience can shed some light on things.

Help, Question....

I just bought a 1994 ZX 7, with 24k on it, for $1500.00, But as I have been riding it the last few days, I find that the second gear is not working right, and the fan behind the radiator is not working, how much is it going to fix the trans and will it be cost effective for me, or should I just give up on the bike, Please let me know what you guys think??
