crystal Yeah, I've been thinking it over and decided with the work I'm putting in to it to go with the 500 (which btw I can't even reach the ground on stock). I do still plan on shaving the seat down a bit though.

Well, just for future reference in the search function an update:

CeeDeeLight Hello Crystal,

I have not tried the adjustmenttech, however if I could offer some advise as to which bike to get, I think you should go for the Ninja 500. I purchased a Kawasaki Ninja 250 in 2000 and I wanted something faster and bigger within 3 months. I currently have a 2005 Kaw. ZZR600 and I love it. I too am on my tip toes (I have to wear boots) I'm 5' tall and I need some lowering links.

Yeah, I'm a full fledged gearhead. I can't leave anything alone. As long as my buddy comes through on a bellhousing this weekend the auto tranny is coming out of my t-bird and the 5 speed going in.

So as you can see, performance is a must. I am tempted to try to build the blast from hell though. It's the most comfortable fit so far (though not the best looking thing) and I think it'd be awesome to throw a real engine on it

I need to start doing some more reading on bikes though. I'm sure a lot of car stuff will carry over, but at the same time plenty will be different.

I cannot offer any advice on lowering, other than that I know a gal who had a Yamaha Royal Star lowered and was very happy with the results. She is in lower 5' range, I guesstimate. She is also an experienced rider.

My wife is about 5'8" and she rides a Suzuki Savage 650, which I believe is the same as Boulevard S40.
[side rant] WTF is this with Suzuki cruisers all of a sudden boasting their cubic inches? Are they fooling anyone that perhaps they are not a metric cruiser or something? I really, really don't get it![/side rant]

The best thing about the bike is its weight. Because it is a single cylinder engine, the bike is extremely light. I don't know how Blast fares in this department. The bad things about it are a) sounds like a big lawnmower; b) tops out at 80mph on the highway, unless you go downhill with a tail wind. I do know that my wife finds it very confidence inspiring for a beginner, though. She has been riding it since last fall, and she already sees a sport or sport-touring bike in her future.

Oh, another thing about the Savage, we both find it rather uncomfortable. If cruisers sometimes are described as providing more rider comfort than a sportbike, this would be a bad example. Too much weight on the lower back with very little support, then add a cramping leg position. My back starts hurting after 15 minutes of riding it. My Bandit's ergos are much more accomodating.

If one of the factors attracting you to sportbikes is performance, you should probably go with the Ninja. From what I read around this board, it sure knows how to haul ass, at least up to 100 mph. That should be OK, since most new riders take a few hundred miles before even 60 mph feels comfortable.

You definitely get the better brakes and suspension than what cruisers you looked at will offer.

Lowering a Ninja 500?

The background...

Being 4'10" with a 27.5" inseam makes life difficult sometimes. I've been comparing the smaller ninja's to the Buell blast and here's what I have so far:

I can touch on the balls of my feet on the blast and am pretty comfortable with it. I figure if I take some off the sides of the seat and a bit off the top, I'd be perfect on it. I know there's a lot of negative feedback on it, but well I'm a tinkerer and I'm thinking even if I got bored with it kinda quick, well, I don't mind a project

As for the ninja 250. I can touch with the very tops of my toes and don't feel the least bit comfortable with my lack of ability to reach the ground. I'm looking at ways to possibly bring it down a bit. The local dealership is working with me on ideas, but I'm thinking if I can take 2" off the 250, I can probably pull 3" off of the 500 and get that. I know I can shave the seat some and did find something about lowering it (see below).

So, I did some research and found this site http://www.adjustmenttech.com/ and they have the stuff to lower a 500 (same parts as a 250?). My question is has anybody dealt with this company and if so, could you give me any feedback, good or bad? Any other suggestions if not?

Thanks guys I really want a sports bike and this whole being short thing is quite annoying right now (though usually quite fun )
