V twin VS inline four

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a V twin sportbike versus an inline four model like the typical Japanese design?

Typically power placement, and total power. The twin has the power in the midrange, with a decent top end. The inline 4 has decent mid-range, with a mad rush of power at the top end typically.

Depending on the firing order the twins can be very forgiving to tires, whereas the inlines can be very rough on tires (one of the reasons for Ducati success in past years of roadracing).
