New... looking for right bike

My friend just resently got me into bikes he asked me if i wanted to go dirt biking with him and i did... that was the first motorbike i had ever drove... now i have some money saved up and i am looking to get my first street bike. I was hoping on some helpful people on these forums to help me out. I have done some research and found that the honda cbr 600 is a very good bike, but then i herd they break down... I know i want to get a 600cc because i am 18 and i will grow out of a 250 way to fast and then 500s arnt really any better then the 250s..

If anyone could give me some suggestions on bikes i would really appriciate it.

Not a 600. At least not one that's less than ten years old.

Read this. Then read this. Then on the handy-dandy menu bar, select search and type in "first bike." Read some of the threads. After that you will probably declare that you aren't the typical rider, learn quickly, blah blah blah and you're getting a shiny new 600. If that's the case, please settle for an '05 Gixxer. I could use the spare parts.
