born again biker

I am returning to sportsbiking after a gap of some ten years, and need some advice on what sort of bike would suit, I know a Bandit or similar would be sensible but i dont want to get bored after a few months, and have to sell and buy again.I would like somethig to grow into. would a Fireblade or R1 be too much bike? advice especially from someone with similar experience would be appreciated

Depends on your previous motorcycles mostly. If you rode 1000's before you'll have a big increase in performance to adjust to but not huge.

Regardless, mostly it depends on if you can restrain yourself from going too fast too soon. The problem is you don't always know what too fast is until too late and the big bikes will go too fast VERY easily.

Go for it but get on a race track a few times to explore the limits before doing any hard street riding.

Cheers and welcome back to the fold.

Ten years is a big absence in time, not to mention how m/cs have changed in that time to superior power & handeling.
The Bandit would be a good buy. I have a '97 YZR600r I like for its ease of handeling, super stopping power, superior MID-RANGE engine power rather then peaky 600s. Though also have a '00 Honda 929, but note the 600 is the lst bike I bring out in the Spring & last to put away in late Autumn or early winter. IF I ever lost that 600 I would try to purchase another with a more mid-range better powerplant. Lastly the 600 gains more used miles each year then the 929 due to a lot of short to medium runs FOR it has a comfortable saddle like the Bullit has!!!!!!
