R6, First Legal Ride

I finally did it!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to take an MSF course that was about 200 miles South of my house here in the Chicago suburbs, but two weekends ago I passed it with flying colors. Yesterday morning I went to the liscensing facility and got my M Class certification. Taking the class is great. Upon completion, you just walk into the DMV, show them your completion card, and your out the door. Yesterday I was busy working on my least favorite thing in the world now, my 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH. Today I fired up the 2002 R6 I've had staring at me for the last three months, and took her for my first legal 10 mile stint. The reason I say legal is because I let curiosity get the best of me and took her out once before I had my liscense. I must say, I took a lot of shit for having a bike, but not riding it because I didn't have my liscense. It was all well worth it though because now I can ride without having to look over my shoulder for the heat (Unlike most of my buddies). The MSF class is well worth it, and I'm glad I took it.

Safe and Happy Riding To All

Talking Congrats

You cant ride with just your permit? I think around here you can as long as its not dark and you don't have two up. It seems that you are a little smarter than me, I didn't wait.
The fun's only just begun........

In Illinois, with a permit you can ride with another liscensed rider. Check out the Illinois Secretary of State website for further information.

wow really. Here in PA we can ride with a permit by ourselves during the day, but at night we have to be with a licensed rider. And of course no passengers until you get a license

I took the class to see if I really wanted to get a bike... I wasnt sure If i really wanted to ride a motorcycle, but i was pretty jazzed...

Lets just say that I did enjoy the class, and 7 days later, i was riding out of the parking lot on my 2001 kawasaki ninja zx-6r. One of the most fun things I have ever bought....

I would not have been able to stand having a bike and not being able to ride it!!! I would have lasted about ohhhh... 5 MINUTES!!

Can't stand it.

I signed up to take the licensing test and they put it two months out! My first permit expired before I could take the riding test!

So anyway I end up driving at night all the time and even have ridden two up now. Mostly from frustration that I can't take my course and get it over with. But when I'm riding at night I never go over the speed limit and just keep an eye out. I've been riding for 3 months and put over 5000 miles on it. all while on my permit. Finally on the 28th of this month I'll be able to get licenced though.

Riding feels like second nature to me. I used to ride 5 hours a day from when I was 8 till I was 14 or so. (lived in the boonies only thing to do was to ride my 100cc kawa) I haven't driven a car in more than a month. I don't have any desire to be in a cage anymore, even in the rain. Seattle winters are very, very wet so I might have to go back to a cage soon though. I'm going to see how long I can last riding in the rain..
