The 450 is a 4-stroke and it is enough for the streets. I have a Yz 426 that I ride on the road, even with stock gearing it does just fine. with 42 sprocket instead of a 49 the bike cruises nicely at 70mph for a single, but I would not take it on the highway.
I ride mine on very tight curvey back roads with stock gearing, most of the turns are 3rd and 4th and the is no way a sport bike can keep up. The bike is boring if you have to go more than a few miles in a straight line, but is a blast in the techincal stuff

A CRF450 should do just fine on the road...if I can ride my cranky little CR250 on-road, your 4-stroke will do just fine!

Ducman~ I see in your sig that you're SMUSA #88...have you been out to OVRP this year? I'm in SMUSA as well (#11), but I've only made the first 2 races of the season.

I only had time to go to one race before I moved. I was at the race in July, I highsided in practice and didn't have any spares
But I had a great time

Unfortuanely I moved and couldn't take my bike. but i hope to make the full season next year

Thumbs up CRF450

CRF450's make a great SuperMotard.

Just be prepared to maintain it and consider a cush-drive equipped rear hub.

Try it...........You'll like it!

Check out the maintenance schedule, race machines require more frequent fiddling.
Cush drives are pretty standard on bikes that see pavement use, dirt bikes don't need them.

I drop 9 teeth in the back when I go to NHIS. I still wouldn't want to go on the highway with it. But my 426 is not made for substained high speeds
