Need help Buildin XR600 Motard

XR600R/Super Motard conversion. Any information regarding types of wheels,tires,sprockets, brake,suspension lowering and so on. Places to get info. or find parts. I need some hard numbers regardin wheel and tire sizes. I also need to find out where I can get the forks cut down. If you have experience at any of this ,I would greatly appreciate your help. Inside Motorcyles (a Canadain magazine) recently ran an article on a XR650L that they converted to a supermotard. I'll look it up and see what info I can get and post it here.

Yeah...the atricle wasn't very technical like I thought, but it does have a few of the modifications listed. BTW, are you planning on a dirt/pavement type of supermotard or a strictly pavement one? The article in question deals only with pavement racing.

As for suspension contact Race Tech, they should be able to help you out.

They don't specify what size, but they have Dunlop D207 GP tires mounted on spoked rims (4.25 inch rear) that they stated as being built by Race Tech also. Tubes are necessary when runing radial rubber on spoked rims like that.

I don't know if the rear brake was modified on their bike (don't know if you would even have to?) but the front was a Brembo Goldline 4 piston caliper and floating rotor.

Other then that they don't list to many other mods other than saying they had some parts custom machined and that they spent alot of time on the dyno tuning the modified motor.

The people whi set up that motard are from Montreal. Pro Tech ?

Anyways, excel rims are usually the choice. Sportbike rims are a cheap alternative though, so long as you won't be hitting any jumps. The sportbike rims won't hold up to that abuse.

Yeah, Pro Tech did alot of the work, but I think they used some Race Tech hardware. I know alot of guys that have had work done at Pro Tech and have been extremely happy with the results.
