questions about importing from the States

Has anyone bought stuff in the States and had it shipped into Canada? I'm thinking seriously about getting a Fieldsheer jacket and I'm wondering if it's going to be a pain.

I've read the information from Canada Customs ( http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/E/pub/cp/...html#P119_2720) and it seems pretty straight forward. Of course dealing with the Gov't, you can never be too sure.

One thing I have heard repeatedly is to avoid getting things shipped UPS... they charge a high handling fee. Using the post office (ie: shipping via the US postal service) should result in only a $5.00 surcharge on customs fees.

Anyone with either good or bad experiences please share with us.

Post importing?

I`ve bought a rear tire and a BMC air filter from nwcycle.com(Portland,ORE)and the price I had to pay in CDN $$$ was 70% more than the listed American price, that inluded GST,PST(i think),a brokerage fee and any shipping fees.No duty was charged because the tire and filter were not made in the `states.
Sometimes it pays to shop around, when I bought the filter,I inquired up here-$180.00CDN.The filter from the US was $64.95AM,my all up cost was $109.00CDN!.My local parts guy said that he could not touch that price.

I have brought a bunch of things across the border without any problems, just pay duty and thats all. I haven't mailed anything or recieved anything from UPS but I doubt it would be any different. My first bike even came from the US but I went through a lot of BS because I didn't know the rules. The most funny part is that customs didn't even see the bike .. It was at my house before I even told them I was buying it.

I doubt you will have any trouble getting your jacket. Just make sure you figure out the price in Canadian $ because everything looks like a sweet deal in the US untill you add in all the other BS.
