A local guy, and buddy of mine, left early this year to go race for 4&6 Racing (based outta Chicago) as Owen Weichel's teamate in the Formula USA 600 class and the odd AMA Supersport event. Ever since he left it's been hard to keep up with what he's doing. My friends talk to his Dad on the phone every once in awhile, but it's been hard getting news on him. Last I heard he had been noticed by Honda USA and was riding Roger Lee Hayden's Erion Racing F4i at Sear's Point when the transmission failed in practice.
Today I found this on the AMA Superbike website:
"Knowledgeable sources say that Canadian Andrew "Andy" Nelson will race Miguel DuHamel's factory CBR600 at Road Atlanta this weekend. Nelson practiced on an Erion Honda at Sears Point but did not race it as it suffered a transmission problem.
Honda seems to like what they have seen from Nelson thus far and have offered him a spot under the big tent for Atlanta with a continued offer of support for the rest of the season if things go well.
DuHamel has not ridden his factory 600 since Daytona as he is concentrating on the all-glory Superbike class this season."
This is great news (if it's accurate of course), and I just wanna wish him all the best of luck in this amazing opportunity.
