Yup, flew from Brisbane - Sydney - L.A. - Kelowna - Calgary - Toronto - Atlanta, then drove, via Lake Toxaway to Deals Gap, JUST to "tame the dragon". Did it in a 1974 Porsche 914 though, not on a bike.

There have been several threads on this. A lot of folks here have been to Deals Gap. I went last September, and will probably go a couple times this year. Not quite sure that I "tamed the Dragon," by I rode it and didn't die.

Seriously though, it is definitely a good time. I'd put S129 and Palomar Mountain in roughly the same category with the following differences: S129 is very consistent, with technical extremes coming up in a few, rare, incidents; whereas Palomar Mountain has each corner engineered completely different from most others.

This year I will focus on Cherahola and some other roads.

i don't think anyone has actually tamed the dragon....although it is fun trying.....I actually love the roads before and after....there is a little known road called 360 that is quite nice coming from the murrysville and ending at Tellico Plains.
My hubby and I got lost one day on that road and found a 30ft high rocking chair someone had built on the side of the road....you climbed the little latter and sat on it and it actually rocked....
I love that area....can't wait to go again...

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast....then to ride a fast bike slow..... : )

Oh yeah, lots of roads. I actually enjoyed the warmup we got every morning this years trip on the Hellbender (28) from Fontana Village.

Great place. Can't wait to go back hopefully in September.

You ought to come to our neck of the woods and give the north GA mountains a try....the loop (hwy 60, 129, and 180) has a little bit of everything....180 is a little deal's gap, with tight twisty turns....(mostly 2nd and third gear).... 60....slightly faster more consistant turns using 3rd and 4th.....129 little faster (4th and 5th gears) with lots of elevation changes....some decreasing radius turns....
I have a lot of fun up there....
