I am planning on buying my first bike soon. I found a 1991 Suzuki Bandit with 14000 miles. They are asking 2100 for it. I checked Kelly's Blue book and they said it is worth about 1700. How should I go about bartering for it? Should I just offer 1700 right off the bat? Is the process different from buying a car? The bike seems to be in okay shape. One more thing, what does tank rust look like? Thanks for any help.
i payed 2100 for a 96 fzr-600, with half the mileage. I think there is probably a much better deal out there for you. If you do want the bike, offer 1500, odds are its going to need some little things fixed if its that old. The way i negotiated mine, was i went there, met the guy, said ill give you 2100 cash in 3 days( he wanted 2500 for it) and 2100 was really ALL i had. So it worked. Good luck
Just to compare, I sold a 1997 Katana 600 with about 15K last spring for $2100(and I paid $1900 the year before).
They're pretty similar bikes, but that one's a 91. I agree that I'd try to get him down to $1500, and wouldn't pay much more than that.
