Harley: We're in this to win

by staff

Here's the press release from Harley-Davidson on them missing the Dunlop test at Daytona next week:

Significant efforts being made to improve the Harley-Davidson VR 1000 Superbike racing program are underway, according to John Baker, director of racing.

Due to the intensity of those efforts, the team will decline participation in the Dunlop tire test held at Daytona International Speedway beginning December 11. "The team will be ready for the start of the AMA season at Daytona in March, but not for the upcoming Dunlop tire tests," said Baker. "When we finished the 2000 season, we had a choice to make: would we move boldly ahead with the intent of being one of the top teams in the AMA Superbike series, or would we be satisfied with the status quo? Harley-Davidson as a company has chosen to invest the resources necessary to develop the VR 1000 into a competitive race bike in the AMA Superbike series. We're in this to win."

Tire Test

It is expected that Harley-Davidson's VR1000 Superbike team will not be in action next week at the Daytona Dunlop test.

Earlier in the week Dunlop officials could not say for sure if Harley was one of the teams that would be attending, and today, sources close to the scene say that the decision has been made by the Milwaukee company that they will not attend the test.

Harley won't be going to Daytona

In a press release received earlier today Harley Davidson will not be attending the Dunlop hosted Daytona Tire Testing, scheduled for this coming Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. John Baker, director of racing, had this to say:

" Significant efforts being made to improve the Harley-Davidson VR 1000 Superbike racing program are underway. Due to the intensity of those efforts, the team will decline participation in the Dunlop tire test held at Daytona International Speedway beginning December 11. "

Considering the abysmal outing the team had at last year test, taking some extra time to prepare may not be a bad idea. However, missing out on three days of track time and the undivided attention of Dunlop's engineers, will certainly put them behind the eight-ball at this year's 200.
