Question Primary/Transmission Lube

What lube can I use in my Firebolt's Primary/Transmission besides Harley products?

What exactly is part #98855-96 Sport-Trans fluid that is recommended in the Firebolt manual? Is it 75W-90 gear lube???

What do you use?

Thanks.

Never Mind

#98855-96 is just the part numer for Sport-Trans Fluid in a case of 6 1-gal containers.

#99896-88 is Sport-Trans Fluid in a quart bottle.

Basically, Sport-Trans Fluid is just 20W-50 but it costs $2.00 more per quart than H-D 20W-50 Oil. What a rip-off for such cheap, low-quality stuff.

In any case I now refuse to use H-D oils and lubes. I'm going to spend the extra money and use Mobil 1 20W-50 beginning next spring for the crankcase and primary case. At least I only have to buy one oil for both applications.

If you wanna try some other oils for your bike head over to www.badweatherbikers.com and there is a whole thing about what to use and whats better.

there's hope in the words and emotion in the eyes
it's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise
and like fools we trust the delivery
but it's all just drunk sincerity

Thanks

Thanks for the link. I'd been to that site before but had forgotten to check it again for oil advice. Thanks again.

The "HELL" with the cost!!!!! Go to the "SYC3" HDI 20W50 oil for
the tranmission and engine... Have a 97S3T which just turned 60K... Have went to "SYC3" to get another 60K... The "TOP-END"
has never been off... It has never failed to bring me home(could there be something wrong with my BUELL when all others have
trouble with theirs)... Am the original owner...

Be careful switching away from H/D oils...

...H/D can void any warranty claims if you use unapproved products in their motors. I usually wait until after it runs before I modify anything unless it comes from H/D Buell. What's the difference if H/D now has their own synthetic? Keep all your receipts for products if you do your own maintenance. I changed my own fluids and then took my XB9S in for the 1000 mile service and it only cost me $135 in labor and the warranty should still be OK.
