"Well this is a strange place for a machined, small, perfectly round hole. My pump must be defective. I guess I'll RTV it. And while I'm at it, I'll RTV the base of the pump where they didn't have a gasket, what do engineers know, with a huge helping of RTV."
Or maybe the thought process is this:
"Hey, I've got coolant leaking down the case. Let's see, I don't want to research rebuilding the water pump... so.....I'll just put so much RTV around it that it can't leak out. If it can't leak out, it will have to go where it's supposed to!"
Sure feels good to get that off my chest. Almost got it all with oil flushing. What a waste of time, considering the R&R and rebuild of the pump took less than 45min. Maybe an hour with the coolant refill. Makes me want to beat the previous owner with a tube of RTV!
