I think you may need to check the paperwork. In the US the 600 Ninja did not come out until 1986. The 900 came out in 1985. I had a chance to test ride the new 600's before they came out at Road Atlanta. That was either late in 1985 or early in 1986. Good bike.
Nope your wrong. The 600 Ninja came out in 1985. I know because my friend bought his in April 10 days before I bought my 900 Ninja. The 85's were red black and silver and I belive the 86's were red white and blue..
Quarter mile times were typically in the 11.9-12.2 sec. range.
(although Jay Gleason once posted an 11.82 sec time)
Top speeds recorded were in the 130-135mph range.
And yes, the 600R appeared in the US in 1985.
Colors:
85: Black, Red, Silver combination
86: 2 combinations offered: Blue/Red/White, or White/Red
87: Red/Gray/White or the Limited Edition 600RX which was
primarily Gray with a bit of gold/red striping.
The 600cc version of the Ninja came out in 1985. I bought one last year to learn to ride on...it has since been sold to a mechanic who is babying it like there is no tomorrow...it's good to see it in really REALLY good hands...
I think that all the paperwork that I got for mine (factory service manual and such) listed it as having a claimed engine HP of 68, with a wheel HP rating of about 61...however, the quater mile times listed are dead on...high 11s to low 12s...
