Help with Pod Air filters

Can't face the prospect of yet again removing and replacing the airbox on my '78 GS1000. That has to be the worst task in motorcycle maintenance. I am considering installing re usable foam pod air filters - one for each of the 4 mikunis. The brand I am looking at now is amsoil, they are not specific to motorcyles but look like the K&Ns and are less than half the price of K&Ns.

What do you think, is there a risk here. SHOULD I DO IT???

ps will rejet etc:

thats what my bike had on them when I got it, they kept falling off, and also the foam breaks down in weather situations, both my mechanic and I agree stick with the airbox, plus your carbs wiull run more equal that way. hell I even went out and bought a new airbox.

Man, you will never get that GS to run quite right with the stock carbs & the pod filters regardless of the brand.

I may have to stick with the airbox - Oh how I hate it. I wonder if mine is the only one that is so unmanageable?

Last time for carb work. This time I have to replace the cam chain. The auto adjuster has reached its limit. I suspect I also have a little bizarre problem. On my last trip a moth flew into my gas tank as I was filling it. I couldn't get it out and I think a good part of it made it through the fuel pump and some into #3 carb plugging a jet. Time to clean out pump and carbs.

Hopefully this will be the last time for a few years.
