Famous Racing picture

This picture is really famous, I decided to use it to draw some attention to the forum. It's been really dead for a while....
This should be easy, I erased the number but it's still quite obvious.
So who is it? And if you can supply more info on the bike, race etc, you'll get more points!

Thumbs up

Hey titomike, how are you doing? I hope you re fine, did you try the Z1000 yet?

Of course you re 100% right, and as Robert mentioned he didn't save it.
The rear tyre failed and blocked on the swingarm while he was doing 170mph on the banking. He sustained serious injuries but he was back racing in 6 months!
This was his first serious accident, the second one was even worse 7 years later, but he came back from that as well, although he became a bit heavier from the metal parts he got from that one...
He was a real legend.
I attach the original photo for anyone who wants to have it.

Right, except for the fact that it wasn't a Michelin tyre, it was a Dunlop. Dulop took years to live down the bad reputation that this crash brought on them!
