First Alu frame Sportbike

Which was the first production sportbike using an aluminium frame and when was it introduced?
Many followed but this bike was a true milestone in motorcycle history.

A lot of ppl will say the first GSXR750 in 1985, but I think it was the Jap spec version of the RZ500 in 1984.

I had the steel framed 1983 export version but there was an alloy framed Japan only street version. Does that count?

No Mike you didn't get this one right I'm afraid.
When I saw that you answered I thought, 's**t he got than one already' and I would have to start looking for new trivia again

I was also thinking that most people would say GSXR 750 but I didn't warn them on purpose
The bike we re looking for was before the one you mention and it was exported everywhere.
You are very close though

Gee I have searched high and low on this one. Plenty around 1984/85/86 but I can't find anything earlier

Hi Mike,

It seems that's it's harder than I thought

I'm not giving it away yet, but I'll give some hints:
It was 1983 and Japenese.

Okay, it looks like we are getting to the point where it is okay to cheat. So, here I am!

The only thing promising that trusty Google could turn up on this was something about some dude named Moriwaki who supposedly developed the first aluminum frame (I thought this would make a good trivia question, too).

Wait a minute! I think I found it! Was it the Suzuki two-stroke RG250?
