What's keeping you off the road? Tired of dodging SUV's or just rather be on a track?

The older I get,

Funny you should say that. When the people I work with saw the "for sale" sign, they damned near put me on a suicide watch. Let me reitterate that this is the best all around machine I have ever ridden. I'd swear it has a soul. But the truth is the more time I spend on the track, the less fun I have on the road. To ride the way I want to (need to), I am constantly risking tickets, or worse. Traffic here sucks, the drivers suck, and the back roads are all heavily wooded (meaning blind corners). I had a defining moment last year when a friend of mine crashed on Rt 211. While we were waiting on the side of the road for the tow-truck when an 18 wheeler came barreling down the mountain, took the turn we were at wide, and consumed all the lanes on the road. Had that been 10 minutes earlier when we were coming up the mountain, there would have been nothing anyone could have done. We would have been dead. Ever since then, I can't let myself go the way I used to. In my region of the country the street holds very little pleasure for me now.

On top of what I just said- where I live I am 6/10ths of a mile from where I work. I never get to ride except on the weekends. In the past year I have only put 3346 miles (as of today) on it. Shameful for a bike that beckons to be ridden like this one does. I am litteraly sick to my stomach at the thought of selling it, but the money would finance my track habit for the next couple of years, and maybe get me started in racing. Someday I will return to the street, but not while I live in the North East.

(and as long as my daughter believes it, there is an Easter Bunny )

Don't try to keep up with my life, you'll only get hurt.

Thumbs down Selling the Falco

Stake,

Interesting. I'm selling mine too. I agree, the Falco's a great bike. My motivation is more mercenary, just got a Subaru WRX and need to get some cash out of the bike to do some trackday prep on the car. With the leftover $$, probably get a used four such as a YZF600R. I'm pretty callous about my bikes, I guess.

I hear 'ya on the dense woods back east. Grew up in upstate New York and the back roads usually bumpy from frost heave, slipshod patch jobs by the county and lined with a whole heap of trees, stone walls, what have you. Around here, a lot more open range land where you can often see ahead and plan your moves. But further north in California, logging trucks, lots of woods - same issues that you're dealing with.

Well, I'm absent from the boards for a while, and when I come back to visit what do I see? Stake selling his beautiful bike!!

The sky must be falling!

Seriously, I'm with ya on the track vs. street thing, but I just don't think I could completely give up the street just yet... But I have to admit that the track is 100 times more fun than the street.

You always have an open invitation to ride one of my bikes when we hit the street (you have one of them right now anyway)

How is my baby anyway? I insist you ride it, those rockers need to stay coated with oil..........
