West Texas

Hey everyone,

I'm a new rider and found the forums on a google search. I recently moved to Texas from Wisconsin and my interest in motorcycles started up again. Before it would have been a seasonal toy but now I can ride and use it more often.

I took the MSF course early this year and spent just about everyday since then watching 2-3 hours of youtube videos trying to learn as much as I could about everything motorcycle related. I have watched more motovlogs, accidents, tutorials, and youtube videos that I ever have in my entire life on one topic.

After I had a stable job I spent a month at the dealership trying out different bikes. I loved the eased relax feel of a cruiser but loved the look of a sport bike. The compromise I found was a 2012 Kawasaki ninja 650. I spent hours watching the debates about a 250 vs 650 as a first bike and about buying new vs used.

In the end I chose the brand new Kawasaki ninja 650 because I knew nothing would be wrong with it. I knew that 650cc was plenty for the 75mph highways around here. I knew it is what I wanted.

I let a family member drive it home and settled down for a couple days before they drove it to town for me. They left me in a tiny town near by and I spent 3 hours learning about my bike. I finally worked the courage to drive 75mph for about 5 miles home. :P

I have been slowly going farther and learning the basic skills trying not to do anything stupid.

Unlike this guy:

(buys a brand new bike, never rode before, didn't know anything, tried to drive it home, totaled...)

Anyway I'm here to find others who ride in the San Angelo area. I'm actually between San Angelo and Abilene in the middle of nowhere. Just how I like it.

I've been riding for about three and a half weeks now.

Welcome

Congrats on selection of bike (a good one for your skill level), and one being smart about your start. Common sense isn't as common as most would like it to be....

I'm an EMT I have seen what happens when people aren't smart. Thanks for the response.

Very nice. I've been contemplating a move out to Texas. The housing prices out there are just right.

Personally, I'm an idiot, and I know with my riding style I would mess up, which is why I got a 250R first. ( I did fuck up, where if i had a 600 I would be flat on my ass, but instead I'm good.
