For a first time rider, the Ninja 250 would be the better choice.

However, I'd look for a used Ninja 500 or a Suzuki SV-650.

tough one

can you haggle the 636's price down? It will be your first, so better to get used.

The 250 is a good beginner, sharp new look, but I dont think it has enough power

I would go for the 636, if you can bring it down to like $3,800. I only buy bottom dollar though, but 4000 would be ok.

good luck

No way, stick with the 250, get comfortable on 2 wheels, and then get a 600 in a year or 2.
