Thumbs up To My Fellow Noobs: Recommended Reading

I have yet to operate a motorcycle, and just picked up a book that a friend recommended to me. I just finished it and I have to say that I learned a lot that I wouldn't have otherwise thought of. This is really worth a look by anyone out there who wants to develop good habits from the start. Educate yourself on how to be safe before you go for your first ride.

Sport Riding Techniques: How To Develop Real World Skills for Speed, Safety, and Confidence on the Street and Track

It's by Nick Ienatsch, who…let's just say he's qualified to write this book. If you want more info about the author, Google him.

You can pick up a new copy from Amazon.com here for $17. Shipping makes it around $20. Amazon also has used copies from $13.

I feel like I'll have advantages in both performance and safety when I start riding because I picked this up. Get educated, get gear, take an MSF Course, then ride. Gear/MSF are things any experienced rider will tell you, but there's a lot more preparation you can do, and this is a good place to start. It also has enough advanced information that you'll be referencing it as you learn more advanced riding techniques.

If anyone wants to recommend other titles, feel free to add to this thread.

Good post, Tim. I'm sure even more experienced riders would learn something from that book. I just picked up "Proficient Motorcycling" by(forgot his first name)Hough.
It covers a lot of real world situations like RR tracks and other road hazards. It's based on articles from MCN.
