new rider

Hey hey! I just picked up a new 05 Suzuki GS500. Damn near drove into a tree while I was test riding in the parking lot. Down shifted (I think, it's all a blur ) and the thing started bucking and I accidentally gunned the throttle and lost control, I got away with only a few scrapes and the bike faired about the same... I was of course wearing a helmet, wish I had had some gloves and boots (ankle and knuckle scrapes), then I probably wouldn't have the scrapes I have now... One of the guys from the dealership gave me some pointers and I got back on and gave it another go, drove it around some more and got used to the down shifting thing and drove it right home with no problems... Haven't gone anywhere other than straight home, that was a 20 mile drive and I loved riding it. Taking it to work tomorrow and then riding as much as I can afterwards!

Congrats on the new bike. You really ought to get yourself into a MSF riding course. You'll pick up invaluable riding tips and maybe save on insurance.

Ride safe.

Congrats and welcome.
+1 on the MSF course... its pretty cheap, and they give you a bike to trash.

MSF!

Being a completely new rider, it did wonders for me. I suggest you do the same. Forget about your injuries; poor bike.
