San Juan Capistrano, CA

I will be flying out to San Juan Capistrano, CA for a job interview this Monday (7/1). Anyone give me some hints as to what to look at (If I get a chance to poke around the city).

Like most OC 'burbs, San Juan is spread out and mostly residential. However, it is a mission town with a 200-year history, which distinguishes it from the rest. Mission San Juan Capistrano is interesting to visit but will take no more than an hour to walk through.

For good beer and Mexican food, go to the Swallows Inn, about a block south of the mission.

Presumably you'll fly into John Wayne and rent a car. If you have a couple of hours, drive east on Ortega Highway (state route 74), a great sportbike road that has now become a congested commute route between southern Riverside County and southern Orange County. About 20 miles from San Juan, you'll find The Lookout, a legendary weekend motorcycle hangout. I haven't eaten there for several years, but the food is generally edible.

San Diego has a nude beach near UCSD called Black's Beach

HondaNut! is right. Ortega Hwy is cool, but REALLY patrolled by the local Gestapo. Maybe not so much on a weekday.

I used to go to San Diego every year (to party in TJ) and went to Black's Beach once. It sucked, just a bunch of old naked farts.
