I have a 2000 victory sc 1500 with under 5k miles, starting having trouble with the clutch. When I downshift it make a loud clank ever time and some times when i shift it does it also. Would the clutch cable just need adjusted or is my clutch going out.
Honestly this could be a normal occurrence, or a disaster of the transmission.
First of all, you are pulling the clutch lever all the way in when you downshift, and revving your engine slightly before/while letting the lever out right?
If you are somewhat experienced and are confident that you are downshifting/upshifting correctly, then I suggest you go to the nearest auto repair shop that will see motorcycles, and just have them take a look at it. Some shops won't even charge you for a quick inspection.
Some things to check are: Is your shifting pedal loose? Does you clutch lever feel any different when you pull it in, and as it is going through the 'catch point' where the gear catches? Does the bike lurch forward, or bog down when you hear the cranking sound? Does the crank sound only happen between certain gears, or every downshift?
Clutch problems can get serious quickly if left unattended. Get it looked at. Good luck enjoy the ride
