Shifting back into 1st gear from 2nd problem?

Well I am finally having my first problem with the 05 FJR. I have 32K on it and it isn't wanting to go back down into 1st gear from 2nd when coming to a stop.

I suspect that the shifting fork is bent but I'm scratching my head on this one.

Has anyone else had this problem or have an idea of what it is?
Any idea what it's going to cost to fix?

The bike isn't under warranty any longer that I know of. I can get the engine out and apart as long as no real special tools are required but I don't know if I should mess with it or just look for another engine out of a wrecked bike.

Any ideas or suggestions?

The shifting fork could be bent but what are the details of what happens and does it happen everytime? Does it go into neutral or does it stay in 2nd. Are you stopped or are you moving and at what speed to you downshift into 1st at.
