changing exhaust

I've got a 96 Yamaha YZF750 with Akrapovic supersport 4 to 1 pipes . The can is pretty shot from numerous mettings with the pavement at the track. I want to get a new can. Would it make any difference in performance to change out the can for a different manufacturer? I've been told Akrapovic doesnt make that exhaust any more and another brand would be cheaper to buy. I've had the engine dyno'd with Akropovic. Any suggestions?

From all my readings, new cans have pretty much zero value in terms of a change in power. I believe I've read you have to do full exhaust changes and then remap to get any value. Based on that it shouldn't matter which one you choose.

Have you checked with Akrapovic? Last time I did, they still have the parts to rebuild the can on my 1991 FZR full system.

Or maybe you can contact them with the dimensions of the can and ask about a new sleeve and rivet kit. Pretty much all you would need if the caps and baffle are good.

If you do change the exhaust you will need to re-jet the carbs again to match the flow characteristics of the exhaust.

1991 FZR 1000 - built 1040 with race cams, Akrapovic full exhaust, and mild suspension work
2004 YZF R1 - Graves full exhaust, velocity stacks, BMC race filter, and Power Commander. Rear Ohlins. Forks rblt with Race Tech springs and Gold Valves.
2005 20th Anniversary V-Max (0098/2000) - T boost,
2005 YZF R6 track bike - Graves full exhaust, Race Tech suspension
