Question Polishing Plastics ???

My last bike, a 02 6R, had a paint job on it, the plastics were black on the inside and yellow on the outside, painted.

I have recently lowsided my buell, they are a real set of 'plastics', made of/by/from a blue piece of plastic through and through. I've begun sanding it down smooth and it looked better when it was scraped. Im thinking of sanding it in the same manner of when I was polishing my frame, but only with a different compound at the end, buffing stage....

Should I continue down (up) the grades if sandpaper to 2000 grit and see if I can make it 'new' again?
Has it been done like this? Will polishing plastics work?

polishing plastics, weather painted or colored abs plastic will only work with polishing compound or a normal polish and a buffer or "wheel". just be carefull not to "burn" the paint when doing so.

would this thing also be used as a buffer? kuz I have tonns of these...

.... and I have two types of compounds already, all set there... I talked about them on another thread on how shitty they were, but time passed and I have learned how to use them, I think....

'Burn'? What do you mean by 'burn' ? How would you know if you went too far?

Am I headed in the right direction about the sanding part?
