Roethlisberger Crash ~no helmet

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger, who last season became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to a Super Bowl title, was injured Monday morning in a motorcycle accident and has been transported to a local hospital with head injuries of unspecified severity.

"He was alert and conscious," said Ernie Roman, shift commander for the Allegheny County emergency service, told The Associated Press.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports that early indications are the injuries are not life-threatening.

Roethlisberger, the team's first-round choice in the 2004 draft, was transported to the trauma unit of nearby Mercy Hospital, a source confirmed for ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli, but his condition is unknown.

Witnesses told authorities that Roethlisberger's motorcycle collided with a car near a downtown intersection and that Roethlisberger's head hit the windshield and was bleeding. Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet when riding.

That's what I was thinking. And why would he ride without one anyway and risk his career??

contract stuff maybe, but I hope granholm will consider this when she reviews that bill on her desk. with a helmet on he would have suffered a broken collar bone (maybe, worst case) and the knee damage he has already suffered from hitting the pavement. so stupid big ben.

Quote:
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, citing a police source, reported Roethlisberger also broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost teeth and has knee injuries from hitting the pavement. A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said.

If you go back to the webpage, they now have pictures up of the bike (busa?) and of some blood on the street and you can see a pic of the winshield that his head hit.

no contract violation ----- he must have known that this would happen some day.

He made sure that there wasn't a clause about his bikes in his contract.

Maybe he should play without a helmet too??? After all, what could it possibly be "saving"?

THey have a nice pic of the car he collided with. He missed hitting that windshield pillar by about a 1/16 of an inch!
What an idiot.

Maybe once one of those clowns gets killed or turned into a paralized person, the other fools will learn.

A Hayabusa and no helmet. A really great combination.
