I love leathers!!!!

I had my first crash in leathers last week.

We were doing a trackday at Willow Springs, big track. I couldn't get my mind into riding that day, I probably shouldn't have been on the track at all. I was rediculously slow. After lunch, a light rain picked up. All of a sudden, I got comfortable, and picked up my pace significantly.

Went into turn 3 at a good pace, rolled on the throttle, and the back end went away.

I've crashed plenty of times on the street, and it has always been a traumatic experience. This time, I just slid on my butt for a little ways, and stood right up. I even had time to look over my shoulder while I was sliding to see if there were more bikes coming. Damage to the bike was minimal, and I went back out the next session.

My leathers are barely scuffed. I was completely unharmed. Let that be a lesson to you, kids. Proper gear WORKS!!!!!!!

Good point. At least you were on a track and not the road.

The bit of rain probably "helped" you to slide better.

Good story, with a reasonably happy ending.

Honestly... I didn't like it.

I do trackdays for fun. I am not there to race, I am not there to get hurt. Entering turn 8 in 6th gear at 8000 Rpm was just a bit much for me. The slowest turn on the track, turn 3, I was taking in 4th gear. Granted, I probably should have been in 3rd, but I didn't feel like adding an upshift between 3 and 4.

Now, to be fair, I had a LOT on my mind that day, and couldn't focus. It may have been totally different if I had my head in the game. After I crashed, I felt great! I was ready to RIDE!!! Unfortunately, it rained again my next session out, and I didn't feel like being an idiot and crashing twice in one day, so I decided to pull off and wait for a dry session. At the end of that session, my buddy crashed pretty hard into one, so we decided to pack it up.

Who knows... maybe I'll come back to Big Willow someday, and I'll totally love it. I would REALLY like to take on Streets of Willow. Now THAT looks like my style!

What kind of leathers do you have Kev? Or did I miss it?

I have AGV leathers, but thats not the point of the story. Any good quality, full leathers, with hard armor are highly effetive at preventing injury.

They made from dragon skin???

My friend that crashed into One was wearing Frank Thomas 2 piece leathers. The butt was nearly ripped apart, and he has a huge lump on his knee. He was also wearing textile gloves, which completey failed in the crash. Ambo had to bandage up his hand.

I was wearing Fieldsheer gloves. I put my hand down while I was sliding, then said to myself, "I don't want to burn up my gloves!" so I picked it up. There is not a scratch on my gloves (thank you Robert, if your still around!!!).

Don't skimp on the gear, it'll come back and bite you in the ass (or hand).
