May 17th Lockhart/CCS Track Day at Firebird East
I was at the track day, so I'll give a little run down of my day. This was my second ever track day. My previous time was the April 28th Team AZ track day. Needless to say I was a bit nervous my first time and felt like running 1:24's were fast. This time I went out MUCH more relaxed, and in my first session, not pushing I ran consistant 1:20's. My goal for the day was to break into the teens. Most of the rest of the morning I spent behind riders I couldn't get past due to CCS/Lockhart rules. One thing I didn't like about this Lockhart day was they did not allow ANY passing in the corners in the beginner group. At the TEAM AZ day we could pass anyone not wearing an orange vest. So when I got behind someone on a ZX-6R carrying 20MPH less then I would in the corner, but would nail the throttle on the straights I was getting pretty frustrated. This seemed to happen ALL morning (yes, this SAME ZX-6R). I had by this time gotten my times to 1:18s when I had some room, or running 1:25's behind my favorite Kawi rider. (I need to vent a little). I guess the instructors noticed it because they moved me to the intermediate group, and I was running 1:17's and feeling good. So my goal for next time is to break a 1:15 and I'd be real happy. In the fall I plan on taking the racer school, and starting to race lightweights. These times were on my SV-650, which is pretty much stock other then pipe/jet kit and suspension. The motor is otherwise stock.
